Jets' Woody Johnson: Braylon Edwards Jersey has harmed his future NFL prospects
New York Jets owner Woody Johnson publicly expressed his disappointment in Braylon Edwards Jersey on Thursday and said the receiver has harmed his long-term prospects in the NFL.
Johnson said he's spoken several times with Braylon Edwards Jersey since he was arrested on a drunken driving charge on Tuesday morning. Braylon Edwards Jersey, who's in the final year of his contract with the Jets, did not help his prospects for a new contract, Johnson said.
"If he proven guilty, he's got a serious taint on his record," Johnson said, via the New York Daily News. "He's going to be a free agent at some point. If he's convicted on this, this is not going to be helpful. So I think he's got a heavy load in front of him."
Braylon Edwards Jersey apologized publicly on Wednesday. Police said he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.16, twice the legal limit, when they arrested him.
"Embarrassment would not be the way I'd characterize it," Johnson said of Braylon Edwards Jersey. "I think it's more sad rather than embarrassed. I'm sad for him. This type of thing does not represent who we are or who I want us to be and who Rex wants us to be. This is not the goal we're striving for."
The owner, who added he was upset Braylon Edwards Jersey didn't take advantage of the confidential ride service he provides players, said he wants to root out all drunk driving on his team.
"We're going to push this as hard as we can push this," Johnson said, via the Newark Star-Ledger. "There's no tolerance; there's no tolerance for point-anything alcohol level if you're driving. Zero. I don't want any drinking or driving."
The Jets have said they will not start Braylon Edwards Jersey on Sunday night in Miami,NHL Jerseys, and Johnson said he endorsed that approach. The team has said any potential discipline for the arrest must come through the NFL's substance-abuse policy.
