NEW DELHI, May 22 (Xinhua) - At least 16 police personnel, including five women, were killed by suspected extreme left-wing rebels in the western state of Maharashtra Thursday evening, according to a report by the Indo-Asian News Service on Friday.

Following a tip-off synthetic wigs, the police team had gone after a gang of rebels in a forest in Gadchiroli full lace wigs, 300 kms from Nagpur, but the police team was apparently ambushed by the heavily armed rebels, said the news service.

Among the dead police personnel were an inspector and a sub-inspector and five police-women, according to the news service.

The rebels were believed to be the extreme left-wing Naxal insurgency Fashion Synthetic Wigs, which staged several high-profil attacks upon police during the general elections last month.
